YMCA After School Program in Pana Highlights Outreach Plan

The Christian County YMCA is pleased to announce the launch of an After School child care program for Kindergarten to Fifth grade students in Pana.  The program will be offered at Washington Elementary from dismissal of school until 6:00 p.m. daily, with district bus transportation provided for Lincoln Elementary and Sacred Heart students.  The program will provide a postive environment with adult supervision offering sports, free play and more.  This new program will be under the leadership and direction of After School Site Coordinator, Joan Saatkamp.  "I am looking forward to beginning this program in Pana.  I feel like we have needed this and the families and children will benefit; I'm so exicted", said Saatkamp.  After School Counselors will assist in carrying out daily activities and supervising the children; thus far Ericka Crawford and Breanna Schoonover have been hired to fill this roll and applications are still being accepted.

Recognizing the positive impact this will have on youth and families in the community, Peoples Bank & Trust has agreed to be a major sponsor for this program.  In an effort to keep program fees as low as possible and encourage participation, Peopes Bank & Trust will be making a generous donation of $5,600 to the YMCA for the 2016-2017 school year.  "I've discussed the program with some of our key staff here in Pana and we believe this is a very important program to improve the Pana community", said Peoples Bank & Trust Chief Financial Officer, Craig Deere.  Additionally, scholarships are available to those who qualify through the YMCA's Financial Assistance program that supports the organizations practice of not denying services to anyone based on an ability to pay.

Just over a year ago, with input from community leaders thoughout Christian County, the YMCA developed a long-range strategic plan.  One of the primary initiatives of this plan called for assessing the needs in commmunites outside of Taylorville and developing a plan to meet them.  WIth Pana being the next largest community in the County, YMCA leadership decided to focus its efforts on learning how the Y could best serve those in this community.  Through this process, the YMCA's membership and Marketing Committee identified that the membership structure in place didn't fit well with the needs of those in Pana and the time to make the round trip created a significant obstacle to becoming involved.  This led the committee to develop an additional membership option for Pana residents which is currently being offered without a joiner fee.  This option offers significantly reduced rates, access to the YMCA facility on Fridays - Sundays with full member privileges, member pricing on all programs and use of other YMCA's nationwide. "The YMCA and our Board of DIrectors are thrilled to be in a position to better serve the residents of Pana", said YMCA Executive Director, Chris Weittenhiller.  "It has been a pleaseure getting to know so many great people through this process and I'm very appreciative of the support and assistance provided by Dr. David Lett and the staff of the Pana School District and Craig Deere of Peoples Bank & Trust who have all been instrumental in getting us to this point:, said Weittenhiler. The YMCA will also be participating in the Back to School Bash on August 20th and hope you'll stop by and take a turn in our bounce house as well as the Meet the Teacher Night on August 22nd.  Please call 287-7271 with any questions regarding the Pana After School program or the new membership option available to Pana residents.

Peoples Bank & Trust Helps Keep Seniors Safe

Thanks to Peoples Bank & Trust, residents of Auburn Rehab and HCC in Auburn, IL  will live in a safer and even more secure environment.  Peoples Bank & Trust recently joined the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation (SHCPF), and is helping to protect those seniors by funding the Senior Crimestoppers program for seniors residing in this care facility.

The Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation is a national organization that serves as a way for banks to fulfill their federally mandated Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) requirements through providing aid to low and moderate income individuals in their local community.  The Foundation's mission is to provide safe and secure living environments for our nation's senior nursing home residents, many of who are low and moderate income individuals, through the operation of the nationally acclaimed Senior Crimestoppers program.

Crime against the elderly in our society is a longstanding, constant battle that can be reduced and prevented through the operation of the Senior Crimestoppers program in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.  Senior Crimestoppers is a coordinated set of components that work together to create a zero tolerance to crime platform in senior housing facilities.  Components include personal lockboxes for the residents, cash rewards up to $1,000 paid anonymously for information about wrongdoing of any kind, and effective, on-going education and training for staff members and residents.  Senior Crimestoppers has reduced all aspects of crime in participating facilities by 94%.

"Senior Crimestoppers is a way for an administrator to further enhance the lives of the residents they serve.  They all work very hard to provide safe, secure, comfortable living environments and their desire to implement the program is just one more example of this.  Implementing this program does not mean that the facility currently has a crime problem, but that the administrator is proactively finding a way to keep problems from occurring in the future," said Terry Rooker, president of Senior Crimestoppers.

John Gardner, President and CEO of Peoples Bank & Trust said, "Since our founding in 1954, we've believed there is a commitment to not only our customers, but also the communities we serve.  We are glad to be able to be a part of the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation program and provide added security for the residents of the nursing homes."

The Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation and Peoples Bank & Trust will be holding a charter presentation at Auburn Rehab and HCC on March 23, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. located at 304 Maple Ave. in Auburn, IL  62615.  Members of the media and public are encouraged to attend.

Peoples Bank & Trust is a locally owned and managed, independent community bank with ten offices in Pana, Taylorville, Charleston, Altamont, Springfield, Waverly, White Hall, Morrisonville, Palmyra and Tower Hill.  Peoples Bank & Trust is a full service bank offering customer service to consumers, small business and farmers in Central Illinois.  People First Bancshares, Inc., with corporate office in Pana, Illinois, is the holding company for Peoples Bank & Trust.

Senior Crimestoppers is a multi-faceted, crime prevention program that protects the elderly from theft, abuse, neglect and financial exploitation, and is administered by the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation.  For more information about the program, visit www.SeniorCrimestoppers.com or call 800-529-9096.

Not only does the Foundation impact the lives of the elderly in long-term care facilities, we also impact the community outside of the long-term care industry through the CRA-qualified securities we purchase on behalf of our bank partners.  As of June 30, 2015, the community impact has reached approximately $183 million which goes to provide affordable home mortgages for low-to-moderate income families, affordable healthcare services, small business development, providing job creation, as well as other economic development projects.  For more information about the Foundation, visit www.SHCPFoundation.org or call 877-232-0859.
