Peoples Bank & Trust Donates to Franklin Waverly Military Support Group

Rob Lyman, Community Bank President at Peoples Bank & Trust recently presented a check for $500.00 to Celia Edwards for the Franklin Waverly Military Support Group. In giving back to the community, Peoples Bank & Trust is committed to not only serving our customers, but also the communities it serves.

The Franklin Waverly Military Support Group came together 15 years ago for the support and friendship of others who had a loved one deployed. Little did they know at that time, they would still be together today. Over the years, the members of the group have changed, but they still have the same mission; to send a little touch of home to our soldiers. They currently send packages of food items and toiletries to deployed men and women each month. The cost of mailing the packages has increased over the years and now cost $13.60 per box and they mail approximately 50 plus boxes each month. At this time, they could add more names as a new group from Springfield has arrived in Afghanistan. We receive many letters of appreciation from the soldiers and the letters and pictures from the children seem to be a big hit as well as a new pair of socks.

The donations of items and money make it possible for us to continue with our mission. So many people have stepped up to the plate to help us. The group has people from Jacksonville, Waverly, Franklin, Girard, Virginia and Virden who help. So, if you have a few minutes to spare, send a card or letter to a deployed soldier. There are many of them who do NOT receive any mail. You could brighten the day of a soldier who is fighting for our freedom. They will mail to any soldier whose name they receive; many of them we do not know. The group meets at the Franklin United Methodist Church basement twice a month on the first and third Tuesday at 7:00 P.M. For information you can call 435-4671.
